End grain cutting boards are coveted as work pieces for many reasons. End grain cutting boards save your knife's sharp edge and are self healing because when you cut down, the knife blade goes between the fibers of the wood. Traditional cutting boards are face grain meaning when you cut, it cuts the fibers from the tree. These fibers are strong and dull your blade, it also leaves cut marks in the board.
As with all wooden cutting boards do not cut raw meat on them. The bacteria can seep into the pores. Before you have oily products on the cutting boards add a small amount of butcher block butter to seal the pores.
If you put a hot pan on the board, a ring will be left. Not to worry, let it sit overnight and the ring will disappear.
